Finding the right home 'is landlords' biggest concern'
The aspect of being a landlord that causes investors the most concern is finding the right home to buy, according to new research.
A survey of more than 4,000 investors by Imagine Homes found that more than one-third of landlords worry about finding the right property.
In second place, 16.8 per cent of respondents said they were most worried about rental voids, while 16.3 per cent cited finding tenants as their top concern.
Grant Bovey, chief executive officer of Imagine Homes, commented: “Investing in property can be a stressful experience and this survey has given us an even greater insight into exactly what factors are causing investors the most concern.
Regarding what landlords should be thinking about when searching for the perfect property, the company recommends that investors "get into the mind set of the tenants they are targeting and find a property that fulfils all their needs".
Other preoccupations mentioned in the poll include furnishing the property - an activity which is described as time-consuming - and managing it.
However, despite feeling concerned about their new investment, the majority of landlords are optimistic about their returns. Recently, Bradford & Bingley research revealed that 96 per cent of buy-to-let investors think that rent levels in their portfolios will increase or remain steady in the next six months.
