Home improvement enthusiasts' insurance warning
Home improvements enthusiasts planning to get to work over the Easter weekend have been advised to make sure they are insured for any mishaps.
Research from insurer Cornhill Direct revealed that the average family spends £1,400 a year on DIY, including materials, furnishings and fittings.
Around 12 per cent said that they got roped in to lending a hand with their grown-up children's home improvements, despite most parents living up to 55 miles away.
However, 17 per cent of Britons admit that they have had a DIY disaster in the past, with four per cent having to make an insurance claim for mishaps such as spilling paint on the carpet or hammering a nail into a pipe.
Spokesman for Cornhill Direct Simon Coughlin said: "We have seen our fair share of DIY related claims over the years so people should make sure they know what they're are doing and use the right tools for the job.
"DIY enthusiasts should definitely check to see if their insurance policy covers them for accidental damage just in case a DIY job goes horribly wrong."
Recent research from the Woolwich has discovered that more than half of Britons claim that they do not actually like DIY.
Landlord Mortgages comments “Buy To Let landlords should take note from the comment made by Woolwich Mortgages. If half of Britons don’t like DIY then a landlord could certainly increase value by doing the DIY jobs before putting the property in the hands of Letting Agents.”
