HMO Confusion
There has been found inconsistency in the Houses in Multiple Occupation licensing schemes. There is also confusion about what is required of landlords.
There seems to be a variety of criteria and fee’s range from £60 to £1,100. This confusion is turning investors away from this type of property instead of raising the quality. Around 43% of landlords say they are not bothering with larger properties any more and 6% have sold on those they had. 23% were breaking the law by not being aware of the scheme and therefore had not registered with any of the schemes available.
The Government are now being asked to look at the framework for licensing House in Multiple Occupation so that there would be central guidelines on costs and structures.
