Buy to let investors fall into two categories, the professional landlord running a business and the private investor-using buy to let as a pension fund.

Research sees investors choosing buy to let property rather than stocks and shares because it gives them far more control over their finances and around 70% of landlords say they can get better returns from buy to let than other forms of investments.

The private rented sector is still receiving good returns and stable yields at around 6% over a year.

The point to take is that nothing is guaranteed and that as with all investments the buy to let market still needs planning rather than jumping in blind.
